Sculptural Deco Mexican silver repousse necklace and earrings set in a design created by Margot de Taxco this demi is signed by its maker yet the hallmarks are double-stamped and it’s impossible for me to read the name. Yet even so once cannot help but notice the perfect execution in the silver work, the voluptuousness of the repousse surfaces and the warm patina that has developed over time.
An exceptional early Taxco set…
Size/Weight: necklace is 15 1/8″ long (wearable; actual length is a little more); pectoral part is 3 1/2″ long by 1 1/4″ wide (at center front); width at the chain is approx. 3/4″; earrings are similarly 3/4″ by 15/16″; 72.0 grams (for the set; necklace alone is 65.00 grams)
Hallmarks / Date: “STERLING TAXCO” as well as possibly maker’s name and des. no on earrings yet badly double-stamped; “STERLING” and either “TAXCO” or “MEXICO” yet only partially there on necklace; 1940s
Condition: excellent vintage with beautiful craftsmanship, no flaws noted and warm, gorgeous patina
