Deco Spratling design
Hands and Tulips Mexican Silver and Amethyst
Necklace

Contact us about this piece.

Counted among Spratling's signature designs the "Hands and Tulips" pieces are always sought after for their romantic connotations and their beautifully carved amethyst blossoms.

The necklace offered here, crafted in almost pure, 980 silver, does not bear Spratling's coveted signature yet is of the period the great designer had first launched the design and a great example of how well his contemporaries could emulate him!

Eye-catching and impressive in proportions, this is a daring piece that feels very comfortable to wear, however. The amethyst tulips are big and very crisply carved, with intense color and interesting inclusions. The silverwork is done in thick gauge sheet and has very good detail and warm patina.

The necklace is 17 1/2" long with the chain part 1/4" wide. The figural part is 7" long by approx. 1" wide (the width of the tulip flowers). The pendant hangs 2 5/8" off the chain and it is 1 5/8" wide. Marked "SILVER MEXICO" it has an overall weight of 81.1 grams and dates in the 1930s-40s.

In excellent vintage condition with just a very small nick in the pendant's tulip (in the left petal as you face it) - almost imperceptible and definitely not offensive to the eye.

Offered at $875
