1940s Mexican silver amethyst Machine Age dragonfly Pin Brooch

Found with the signatures of both the Los Castillo and Beto yet here signed by a different maestro, this big, bold and beautiful Mexican silver brooch design is habitually referred to as a “dragonfly”. Though I am not sure about the creature’s taxonomy, I was always attracted to it because of its strong “Machine Age” feel. There is something “industrial” about the perforated wings that belies our image of those fragile, delicate lepidoptera. Definitely the perfect gift for that dedicated entomologist in your life…

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “J.P.” as well as “SILVER MEXICO”; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with deep, beautiful patina that adds dimension to the design, gorgeous color in the stones, with no damage and no repairs noted
