32.5″ long Mexican silver tumbled caged stones Necklace

on Jun 18, 2018 in Mexican and Latin American, Necklaces

Fabulous and quite difficult to find, this extra long Mexican silver necklace features different kinds of colorful tumbled hardstones (some of them semi-precious) caged in sterling wire. At more than 32″ long, it is not just the variety of the stones here that impresses – there is agate, azur malachite, amethyst, quartz, black onyx and jasper among others – but its early date as well. Though post-1980 caged stone necklaces do come up, to find one dating in the 1960s-70s period like the one at hand is indeed a rarity. Wear it alone or combine it with other, similar pieces for an over-the-top look…

Size/Weight: 32  5/8″ long by approx. 5/8″ in width; 82.7 grams

Hallmarks / Date: signed and hallmarked yet partially; I believe maker’s initials are “SHC” (?) and there is also “STERLING” and “925” mark; on the tongue of the clasp a very faint Eagle mark; 1960s-70s

Condition: excellent vintage with a colorful variety of semi-precious stones and hardstones, great patina, and no damage or repairs noted
