Big, bold, beautiful and masterfully executed, this pair of early Matl style silver and amethyst hair combs dates in the 1920s-40s and probably hails from Mexico City. This type of repoussage that allows you to follow the traces of the silversmith as he/she worked the metal is associated with Matilde Poulat within the Mexican context and even though we tend to attribute it to the Deco period, in actuality and more than anything it expresses the sensitivities of the Arts and Crafts movement.
