Combining sterling silver with copper and brass accents the vintage Mexican necklace and earrings set presented here was made by one of my most favorite “less celebrated” maestros. Based in Mexico City, AEM is often referred to as AE Heart because he signed his initials AE in a heart-shaped M. My years of dealing in, loving and researching Mexican silver jewelry have taught me to look out for his work for its impeccable craftsmanship, the quality of materials used and the more-often-than-not inspired designs. The “pears and leaf” beauty at hand is, I think, one of his best moments. I have sold it several times in the past in mixed metals, like here, but also in all-silver and the effect it has on me still remains the same. I simply love the beguiling, mature curves of the fruit, the deep chasing of the veins in the leaves, the way the mellowed glow of the brass and copper finishes embraces the warmth of old silver…
