antique Egyptian Revival silver cobra Bracelet Arm band with Nile scenes in niello

on Nov 10, 2014 in archived

Rare Egyptian Revival silver arm band in the shape of a coiled cobra with scenes of the Nile rendered on its surface in niello. I will date this piece conservatively to the 1920s but I suspect it might be as early as the late Victorian years, at the end of the 19th c.. For the femme fatale…

Size/Weight: approx. 7″ inner circumference (adjustable yet I would seek the help of a jeweler for safety); 3″ tall (distance between head and tip of tail); width between 5/16″ and 1/4″; 37.8 grams

Hallmarks / Date: not hallmarked but tests positive for silver and most probably of sterling quality; 1890s-1920s

Condition: very good vintage with good patina and its niello in great shape; there seems to be an older solder repair but it doesn’t show in the front and is very very strong
