Early 20th c. Danish “skonvirke” (Art Nouveau) silver brooch signed by Georg Albert Halling, this is a feast for the eyes – a true masterpiece en repoussage showcasing floral and scroll motifs accented by dreamy moonstone cabochons. The brooch is big and centered by an equally generously sized oval amber cab the color of dark honey. Off the main body hang three dangles – a cluster of small flowers flanked by two open-backed moonstones. Very dramatic thanks to the wonderful patina that deepens the design’s recesses and intensifies its three-dimensionality; a wonderful example of Scandinavian Art Nouveau design by one of its best representatives…
Size/Weight: 4 1/4″ tall by 3″ wide; 30.7 grams.
Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “GAH” as shown as well as “830S”; ca 1915
Condition: very good vintage with exquisite craftsmanship and great patina; please note that an old chip in the amber cab seems to have been polished out – hence the small circle of slightly lighter color at about 3 o’ clock as you are facing the pin – it is not offensive to the eye but its presence is reflected in the brooch’s price
SOLD – Thank you!
