early Matilde Poulat Mexican silver “paloma” Bracelet ~ rare Matl cuff

By in archived |

Stunning Matilde Poulat bracelet in her signature “Paloma” design yet in a rare for Matl cuff form. It is getting rather difficult to find such early examples of Matilde’s work as both collectors and discerning well-dressers are on the look out for her jewelry. Here, as with all Matilde pieces, the craftsmanship is of the highest quality. The repoussage is strong and pronounced, executed with the unique boldness and attention to detail that can only be found in Poulat’s early works. Please note the way the cuff has been constructed – the bird is not simply applied onto the cuff; the two parts are “melded” together, as the cuff in effect provides the repousse bird with its back and has been hand-cut to absolutely follow the “paloma’s” contour. A veritable collector’s pride and an extremely rare early Matilde Poulat...

early Los Castillo Mexican silver clamper Bracelet repousse Taxco fern design

By in archived |

Early Los Castillo sterling silver repousse clamper bracelet in the most iconic, most classic Taxco motif, the “fern”. A design that has been produced by many maestros, both known and anonymous ones, its version by the Los Castillo workshop will sweep you off your feet. Substantial weight, deep and daring repousse and dramatic oxidation underline why all “fern” clampers are not equal. Masterful…   Size / Weight: 6 3/8″ inner circumference (yet adjustable upwards due to its hinged construction); width between a stupendous 3 7/8″ in the front and 1 1/8″ at its narrowest; 97.2 grams Hallmarks / Date: taller’s name as shown as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO”, des. no 238 and early, raised Eagle 15 assay mark; 1950s Condition: excellent vintage with fantastic patina, no flaws noted, exquisitely crafted and with a snappy, tight...

mod Sigi Pineda Taxco Mexican silver Necklace rare 1950s design no 15

By in archived |

Sigi Pineda mod silver necklace that illustrates, I believe, the maestro’s ability to create stunning jewelry without having to resort to burdensomely elaborate desings. Based on the dramatic contrast of highly polished silver against dark, oxidized backgrounds, the necklace at hand is sophisticated in its minimalism, a pleasure to wear and to behold, and a true Tasco (sic) modernist treasure. One of Sigi’s more difficult to find necklaces…   Size/Weight: just shy of 16″ long; central part is 4″ wide and 1″ tall; width of  chain itself is 5/16; 74.4 grams Hallmarks/Date: maker’s name is script above “Tasco” as well as “MADE IN MEXICO STERLING”, Eagle 3 assay mark and des. no 15; 1950s Condition: excellent vintage with its oxidation in great shape, very impressive and with no flaws noted – a rare example of Sigi...

vintage 50s studio mod SILVER hand-hammered CUFF BRACELET

By in archived |

Unmarked as is the case with many studio pieces from the 1950s-60s, a visually powerful hand-wrought silver mod bracelet. What is very impressive about this cuff is the different depths of field the eye has to rest on. Hand-hammered and heavily oxidized, it is adorned with applied biomorphic spheres and a raised rim all around its perimeter. A combination of slick elegance and urban savvy…   Size/Weight: 6  1/8″ inner circumference (including the 1  5/16″ gap) by just above 1″ wide; 46.2 grams Hallmarks / Date: unsigned and not marked for metal content yet tests positive for silver and is guaranteed of at least .900 purity, though I believe it’s sterling; difficult to date with accuracy but I would suggest 1950s-60s Condition: excellent vintage with great patina, no flaws noted and stunning, substantial presence     SOLD – Thank you! Deco TAXCO MEXICAN silver NECKLACE Los Castillo pre-Colombian feathers design

By in archived |

Based on a Los Castillo original, a pre-Colombian feathers necklace from the early decades of Taxco’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance. Wrought in sterling silver with riveted and deeply-chased links, it lies around the neck in the most divine way – definitely one of the best fitting necklaces I have tried on. Fantastic patina and substantial presence make for a truly spectacular necklace…   Size/Weight: 16  1/8″ long (wearable; actual length is 16  1/2″) by 1  1/8″ wide; 103.7 grams Hallmarks / Date: simply  marked “STERLING”; 1940s Condition: excellent vintage with great patina, fantastic architecturality and no flaws noted   SOLD – Thank you!
