big and bold Mexican Deco silver by pass Ring ~ a Taxco silversmithing feat

on Feb 4, 2017 in archived

Stunning in its beauty and its proportions, a vintage Deco Mexican silver by pass ring that is, in fact, a miniature Taxco clamper! I admire the maestros who made these pieces for taking on the challenge of fitting all this detail and complexity in such small spaces. The example at hand is bold and beautiful – perfect finishing, great oxidation, fantastic relief in a classic Taxco design…

Size/Weight: comfortable sz 6.5 (adjustable up to a 7.5, I would suggest); face is 1 3/4″ by 7/8″; 10.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “IV” as well as “STERLING TAXCO”; 1940s
