One of the best vintage 1950s Taxco sterling silver and stone necklaces I have seen, this chunky, spectacular piece is accompanied by matching dangle earrings. Classy cylinder-and-box construction, only here the colors in the azur-malachite are to die for and the heft of the box links gently softened by geometric cut-outs. I love the vibrant blues in one of the cylinders and the way it stands out of the rest that are mostly green and guarantee all of them to be original to the necklace. Did I say that it wears like a dream?
Size/Weight: necklace is 18 1/8″ long (wearable; once clasped it gains a little and goes up to 18 1/2″); cylinder links are approx. 5/16″ in diameter while the boxes are 7/8″ long by equally 3/8″ wide and tall; earrings are just shy of 1 5/8″ long with the dimensions of the dangle the same as those of the box links in the necklace; 92.6 grams (for the set; necklace alone is 77.8 grams)
Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “MCS” as well as “MEXICO” and Eagle 3 assay mark; please note that the screwback findings on the earrings are made of alpaca and faintly marked as such yet the main body and dangles are tested and guaranteed of sterling quality like the necklace; 1950s-60s
Condition: excellent vintage with stupendous colors in the azur-malachite, undisturbed patina (you can always give the demi a light buffing up), impressive presence and easy to wear and enjoy
