A classic Mexican Deco design the often referred to as “owl” motif is also known as the “leaf and bead” – it’s up to you to decide which one captures your imagination but I like them both. Though I have sold examples of this design in all forms – necklaces, rings, earrings, brooches and bracelets – I don’t remember ever having seen any of those pieces signed by any of the “big” names nor even the ones I love to call the “less celebrated maestros”. They were all anonymous and well-made, the variety in their quality usually showing in the thickness of the silver sheet used to make the links, the quality of the stone and the attention to finishing and detail. Pleasantly heavy, with a beautiful cushion-cut amethyst and crisply executed silver-work, the bracelet at hand is comfortable to wear, quite eye-catching and beguiling in the sensuality of its curves…
Size/Weight: 6 3/4″ long (wearable); width between 1 1/8″ and 1/2″; 67.2 grams
Hallmarks / Date: “SILVER” and “MADE IN MEXICO”; pre-1948
Condition: excellent vintage, heavy yet not burdensome and quite comfortable to wear due to its good articulation, with a beautiful, saturated purple stone, great patina and no damage or repairs noted except for a small scratch in the amethyst that is not visible with a naked eye but you can see in some of the photos captured with my macro lens
