A contemporary of Matilde Poulat’s, Dominguez is among the early maestros whose emulations of Matl pieces I consider excellent alternatives to the Grande Dame’s original work. Very carefully crafted and meticulously finished, with its channel-set turquoise cabs ranging from pale blues and greens to deeper shades of the two colors this is a classic Mexico City piece and an eye-catching one at that. I love the darkness of the amethysts – the stones are not foiled here and the closed back setting intensifies the color to an almost black deep purple.
