Early Mexican Deco silver “puffy heart” necklace, this is possibly the most interesting, most unexpected design I have seen in my years of dealing, reading and “hunting” in the field. Classic Victorian style repousse heart links with stamped and oxidized scroll and band designs, adorned with bezel-set turquoise cabs form part of the chain and the central medallion. Very reminiscent of Southwestern jewelry yet still employing motifs that are not commonly found in that design vernacular either. Sweet as can be and (dare I say it?) one-of-a-kind…
Size/Weight: 18 1/2″ long (wearable; adjustable thanks to the hook-and-eye clasp); “puffy hearts” part is 9 1/2″ long and 5/8″ wide (width of the heart links); central medallion is 1 5/8″ by 1 1/2″; 19.8 grams
Hallmarks / Date: simply marked “MEXICO SILVER”; 1920s-30s
Condition: excellent vintage in a very rare, extremely unusual and fatally attractive design, with patina to die for, all its little cabs accounted for and in great shape, with no problems or repairs noted – a fantastic example of early 20th c. Mexican silversmithing
