huge Mexican Deco silver Pin / Brooch with carved polished agate rose

Stupendous proportions and magnificent carving make this vintage Deco Mexican silver brooch a rare example of Taxco’s early craftsmanship. I believe the stone to be some kind of agate or jasper and fell in love with its variegated, soft moss-green tones as soon as I saw it. The rose is so big that it is held in place not only with four hefty prongs but also supported at the bottom end by a generous bezel. The perfect accessory with the weather turning colder soon…



Size/Weight: 5 1/8″ tall by 3 1/2″ wide; rose itself is 3″ wide by 2 3/8″ tall; 82.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: “SILVER MEXICO”; tested and guaranteed to be of sterling quality; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with imposing presence and magnificent carving; no damage or repairs noted except for a small crack in the stone at the tip of one leaf, in the underside of the stone and almost completely hidden by the bezel
