I like to think that the Los Ballesteros Mexican silver and stone combination pin / pendant presented here might have been inspired by the 1963 release of Hollywood’s Cleopatra movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Carved out of mostly blue azur-malachite the Cleopatra “mask” wears a stylized Pharaonic headdress with the proverbial snake slithering down the parting while raising its head and looking you straight in the eye, carefully studying you and warning you off any misdeed. There is something almost cartoonish about this “mask” with its tightly closed eyes and the upturned nose one would expect in a French face and not in that of a Greek queen of Egypt…
