In the last year or so it seems that I have been really after the quite often monumental Los Ballesteros hinged bangle bracelets. I am fatally attracted to their amazing proportions, the variety of hard stones and gems that adorn them, the fact that these pieces are a hybrid between bangles and link bracelets and, last but not least, their presence that never goes unnoticed. The piece I am presenting here, albeit belonging to the sub-genre I just described, is interestingly different in its “simplicity”. No stones, no gems, no crown settings – just a heavily oxidized basic hinged bangle that is encrusted with “figure eight / infinity”, stylized heart and other geometric wire-work ornamentation. Dare I say that it has a brutalist air about it?
Size/Weight: 6 7/8″ inner circumference (clasped; 2 1/4″ inner diameter); just shy of 1″ wide; 81.8 grams
Hallmarks / Date: fully marked with the taller’s signature as shown as well as “STERLING 925” and Eagle 42 assay mark; 1960s-70s
Condition: excellent vintage with impressive presence, an unusual design and its oxidation in great shape; there is no damage yet I believe a blob of extra solder on the inner surface, near the hinge indicates that the latter was probably re-enforced at some point in the past; everything works perfectly though and the bracelet’s beauty has not been affected at all
SOLD – Thank you!
