Los Ballesteros Mexican silver hinged Bracelet with huge smokey quartz

on Oct 23, 2019 in archived

An astonishing Los Ballesteros Mexican silver modernist bracelet in the type of hinged bangles the workshop excelled in producing, this is a design I have never encountered before and it is literally “crowned” by the hugest quartz gem ever! The gem’s color is the smokiest, deepest “whiskey” – one can feel oneself sinking in its alluring depths yet still not be able to take one’s eyes off it. The setting housing it raises it proudly above the arm while also protecting it with its generous proportions and its thickness. The wide sterling “wings” are ridged and the patina that has darkened the recessed areas where the ridges connect bestows a sensual sculpturality to an otherwise bare-bones bangle. Stupendous…

Size/Weight: 6 1/4″ inner circumference (clasped) by 1″ wide; crown setting is 1 1/4″ in diameter and has a 3/4″ rise; 95.0 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s signature as shown as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO” and “STERLING 925”; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with stupendous presence, a gem that will take your breath away, fantastic patina and no damage or repairs noted other than that the bracelet is ever so slightly out of round (this is truly negligible and does not affect the way it wears or looks in any way)
