Los Castillo Mexican silver mixed metals repousse Bracelet, des. 595

on May 7, 2019 in Bracelets, Mexican and Latin American

Vintage Los Castillo Mexican silver and copper repousse bracelet, this is a sweet example of the workshop’s “mixed metals” jewelry that I am particularly fond of. The Los Castillo are one of the most important talleres in Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance. Not only did they create some of Taxco’s iconic jewelry designs, they also experimented with techniques and materials and in doing that, revived ancient traditions before they were lost to the world. Pluma Azteca, Mozaico Azteca, Metales Casados, just to mention a few – they tried their hand at everything and with amazing results at that. The bracelet at hand is one of their easiest to wear, beautiful pieces – perfect for warmer weather when many of us prefer jewelry with a more discrete footprint…

Size/Weight: 6 3/4″ long laid out but wears like a 6 1/2″; 3/4″ wide; 18.1 grams

Hallmarks / Date: fully hallmarked with an early signature configuration as shown and bearing des. no 595; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with no damage to the repoussage, great patina and a sweet design; the fold-over clasp is original to the bracelet – I have sold this specific design a few times in the past and it always came with this type of closure
