Los Castillo pluma Azteca Mexican Pin Brooch ~ Quetzalcoatl

on Aug 27, 2020 in Brooches, Mexican and Latin American

Silver-plated as is the case with most of the Los Castillo “pluma Azteca” jewelry, holloware and decorative objects this big brooch depicts Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent of the ancient peoples of Mesoamerica. Big, bold and beautiful, the creature poses confidently, well aware of its awe-inspiring, divine presence. The feathers are here open-faced yet protected on the back by the piece’s frame. They are intact and their colors still vibrant but for the white residue of old cleaning liquid that a previous owner used to polish the brooch…

Size / Weight: 2  3/4″ long by 1  1/2″ tall; 18.9 grams (for reference only since there is no precious metal here)

Hallmarks / Date: “LOS CASTILLO TAXCO”, “PLUMA AZTECA”, “HECHO EN MEXICO” and des. no 1 or 7 (?); I would suggest pre-1948 based on the low design no

Condition: very good vintage with no damage nor any repairs noted except for the remark on the cleaning liquid residue mentioned above

SOLD – Thank you!
