There massive and then there is … massive! And believe me when I say that this is a stupendous in its proportions piece. I am used to these pendants having a Los Ballesteros signature but this one is not by them. It is nonetheless one of the most amazing “mask” jewelry I have handled to date. The carving in the amethyst face is deep and carefully done, the color of the stone rich and saturated, the “beehive” silver frame that houses it sheer perfection and the chain, oh, that alone would be a coveted piece. Last but not least, patina, patina, patina…
Size/Weight: pendant is 2 7/8″ tall (not including the bail) by 2 1/2″ wide; with the bail it adds a 3 1/4″ drop to the chain; chain itself is 21″ long with its diameter approx. 1/4″; 124.7 grams (for the set; 73.5 grams for the pendant; 51.2 grams for the chain)
Hallmarks / Date: partial marks on the pendant “STERLING 925”; chain is marked “SILVER 925”; I will suggest 1940s-50s because of the partial hallmarks though I believe the set is probably pre-1948
Condition: excellent vintage with the most amazing patina ever, massive, eye-catching, a pleasure to wear and to behold, with an absolutely fabulous amethyst mask and no damage or repairs noted
