Mexican Deco silver hearts and knots Cuff Bracelet

on Feb 11, 2019 in archived

Elaborate wirework that reminds me of antique, hand-wrought garden fences and window grates characterizes this impressive Mexican Deco cuff bracelet. I have had this specific design before and was, at the time, impressed not only by its serious presence but also by the interesting way the hardiness of knots and ties combines with the softer in nature stylized heart motifs. Signed by a listed yet still unidentified Taxco maestro, this is a cuff that will stay with you for a long, long time…

Size/Weight: 7″ inner circumference (including the 1 1/4″ gap; not easily adjustable due to the thickness of the silver sheet used); width between 1 7/8″ at center front and 1″ at either end; 56.7 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “SCH” as well as “STERLING TAXCO”, “HECHO EN MEXICO” and des. no 820; 1940s

Condition: excellent vintage with very crisp detail and finishing, made out of thick silver sheet that has been deeply chased, with wonderful patina and no damage or repairs noted
