Mexican Deco silver repousse Cuff Bracelet ~ forget-me-nots with turquoise

on Oct 20, 2018 in archived

Repousse silver forget-me-nots with turquoise centers are clustered together to form the face of this vintage Deco Mexican cuff bracelet. I love this piece not only because I am partial to cuffs but also for the twist it adds to romantic Victorian flower symbolism. Now romantic is a word I would not use in conjunction with most vintage Mexican jewelry – not at least in its classic sense that evokes a certain kind of feminine “fragility”. Mexican jewelry is all about the daring female who doesn’t hesitate to make a statement or occupy center-stage. I think the way the repoussage has added flesh and three-dimensional presence to the flowers and the big, dramatic leaves that end the cuff on either side makes these forget-me-nots absolutely … unforgettable…
