Regally bearing the weight of his ornate headdress this vintage Mexican Deco repousse “mask” has to be the effigy of a mighty god. Though anonymous (as were other examples of the same design I have had over the years), the brooch is masterfully crafted, the silver-sheet used to make it has good thickness and the cleverly applied oxidation adds drama and depth to the design. The splash of color coming from the three bezel-set turquoise cabs is welcome and in a way lightens the heaviness of the pronouncement about to come out of the divine mouth…
