Mexican silver koi fish by pass Ring ~ Margot de Taxco dsgn

on Aug 9, 2020 in archived

Based on one of Margot de Taxco’s Japanese-inspired designs (and a very difficult ring to find with her signature!), this Mexican silver by pass ring is signed by one of her contemporaries, a listed maestro who remains among the still unidentified contributors to Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance. I wrote some time ago that by pass rings seem to me to be the equivalent of the “toi et moi” rings that became popular at the beginning of the 19th c. in Europe. The design here combines in an unexpected way romanticism and a sense of humor with the cartoon-like, heart-faced koi fish frolicking in the water in a silvery courtship dance…
