Modernist Antonio Pineda cross pendant necklace wrought out of 970 silver and embellished with pearls and what I believe to be either zoisite or chrysoprase. Exhibiting the exceptional sculptural quality that Antonio’s jewelry has, this piece too looks more like a piece of art than strictly a religious symbol. It is paired with a hand-made sterling chain by Miguel Martinez which provides the perfect match in terms of proportions, weight and vintage. Wearable art indeed…
Size/Weight: 3 1/8″ tall (including the bail) by 1 7/8″ wide (for the pendant); chain itself is 28 3/8″ long; 52.6 grams (for the set; pendant alone is 31.8 grams)
Hallmarks / Date: Pineda’s crown mark as shown , Eagle 17 assay mark and des. no YY 716 on the pendant; Miguel’s initial “m” and “STERLING” on the chain; 1950s-60s though the chain might be from the pre-1948 period
Condition: excellent vintage with no flaws noted, great patina and exceptional design
