pair of Salvador Teran Mexican silver modernist Salt and Pepper Shakers

on Apr 17, 2020 in Mexican and Latin American

Mid-century set of sterling salt and pepper shakers signed by Salvador Teran, one of Mexico’s foremost modernist designers. I love the sense of strong upward motion the swirling silver bands hugging the shakers’ main body exude as well as the cleverly crafted little screw on “plug” that secures your seasonings are safely kept in their containers…

Size/Weight: 3 3/8” tall by approx. 1 3/4” wide (largest diameter at the top); 104.5 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: fully hallmarked with Salvador’s name in script as shown, “STERLING MEXICO” and des. no 405 alongside Eagle 36 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: very good vintage with strong design, great patina and good weight; no unsightly damage and no repairs noted except for a couple of very small, light impressions on one of the shakers – I have shown the “worst offender” in one of the photos
