Big and gorgeous Mexican Deco silver jeweled brooch signed by Rivera, a contemporary of Matilde Poulat’s whose jewelry he masterfully re-created. Rivera’s level of workmanship, his choice of materials and his attention to detail is such that it elevated his jewelry to worthy alternatives to Matl’s original creations. Whether he worked for her or not is not sure but I have not seen a piece by him that was not inspired by or directly based on her designs. Here amazing patina has darkened the brooch’s recesses making the vivid blues, greens, purples and corals of the stones pop. The repousse doves are to die for and the dangles add a touch of playfulness to an already celebratory piece…
