Bangle bracelets, be they hinged or solid, are a big love of mine but I am doubly thrilled to be presenting here a set of three signed by the Los Castillo! How often does one see this form with this signature, truly? Not often enough is the answer and the rarity enhances the innate quality of the pieces. Thick silver, saturated azur-malachite and sprarkling peacock abalone combine here is a musical, playful trio you can wear as easily with jeans and a T-shirt as with that slick, black dinner dress…
Size/Weight: 2 1/2″ inner diameter by 5/16″ wide; 84.1 grams (for the set)
Hallmarks / Date: all three pieces fully signed with workshop’s signature as shown as well as “TAXCO”, “HECHO EN MEXICO” and Eagle 15 assay mark; 1950s-60s
Condition: very good vintage with generous weight, rich colors in the azur-malachite inlay and a rainbow of metallic hues in the abalone and great patina; there is a very small pop in the stone inlay in one of the bangles while it seems that in a very small area of the abalone inlay, the upper layer has fallen off revealing the layer underneath it; the area is still covered with shell, it’s just a little thinner there, but it doesn’t really register as a problem to the eye – you can feel it if you run your finger over the spot rather than see it; I have added a photo of the two bangles showing the areas in question so you can assess it yourselves as well
