One of my favorite Alfredo Villasana designs, the “swirl and ball” clamper is executed in repousse that exudes a sense of uninterrupted, effortless flow. As opposed to some of the maestro’s other creations, this one adheres to the strict minimalism of modernism with oxidation and patina being the only enhancements that add to its sculpturality…


Size/Weight: inner circumference of 6  1/2″ (yet adjustable due to its hinged construction); width tapering from an impressive 3  3/4″ at the front to 1  1/4″ next to the hinge; 60.0 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s conjoined initials “AV” as shown as well as “VILLASANA”, “MADE IN MEXICO”, “STERLING 925” and Eagle 8 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with sweeping, curvaceous lines, beautifully executed repoussage, a tight, snappy hinge and gorgeous patina
