sublime Margot de Taxco Mexican silver and enamel Necklace ~ Roman Patrician des. no 5862

on Aug 21, 2017 in Mexican and Latin American, Necklaces

Published on p. 143 in Penny Morrill’s book on Margot de Taxco’s enamelwork, the “Roman Patrician” is a design that showcases Margot’s ability to create three-dimensional jewelry that speak directly to the heart. The portrait’s luminosity is achieved here with the addition of gold leaf behind the transparent color of the enamel and the glistening black of the medallion upon which it is riveted makes it stand out in a magic way. This is a substantial piece with its two constituent parts ready to be worn with other chains or pendants as well…

Size/Weight: chain itself 24″ long (wearable); pendant just shy of 3″ tall by 2 1/4″ wide; 111.8 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date:¬†fully and appropriately signed on medallion’s back with Margot’s name as well as des. no 5862 and Eagle 16 assay mark; mid-1950s

Condition:¬†excellent vintage with stunning presence and great patina; there is a very shallow, tiny little flake off the uppermost layer of the enamel on the figure’s lips yet it is not noticeable to the naked eye and does not deter from the necklace’s beauty at all

Offered at $1175.00
