Early Deco Mexican silver repousse pectoral necklace, this is a masterpiece of repoussage and beading, its layered construction enhanced with oxidation and bold sculpturality. Signed by a still unidentified maestro whose work I have learned to appreciate and search for over the years, this piece has good length to it as well and can easily be adjusted with the addition of a simple extension…
Size/Weight: approx. 17″ long (difficult to measure accurately because of the dip at center front); pectoral part is 4 1/2″ wide by 1 11/16″ tall (at center front); chain is 5/8″ wide; 68.6 grams
Hallmarks / Date: maker’s signature as shown as well as “MEXICO TAXCO”, “STERLING TAXCO” and “940” which might be a design number or might indicate that the alloy used here is purer than sterling; 1930s-40s
Condition: excellent vintage with dramatic presence, craftsmanship of the highest caliber and great patina
