Combining sterling silver with copper and brass accents the vintage Mexican necklace and earrings set presented here was made by one of my most favorite “less celebrated” maestros. Based in Mexico City, AEM is often referred to as AE Heart because he signed his initials AE in a heart-shaped M. My years of dealing in, loving and researching Mexican silver jewelry have taught me to look out for his work for its impeccable craftsmanship, the quality of materials used and the more-often-than-not inspired designs. The “pears and leaf” beauty at hand is, I think, one of his best moments. I have sold it several times in the past in mixed metals, like here, but also in all-silver and the effect it has on me still remains the same. A rather rare to come upon vintage sterling silver Mexican necklace in a repousse interlocking hearts design, this is a piece bearing the signature of AEM, one of my favorite “less celebrated” maestros. Often referred to as AE Heart because his signature consists of his initials A and E in a heart-shaped M, the specific maker worked in Mexico City and his jewelry is always carefully made, very well finished and quite often genuinely inspired. In one of my favorite pre-1948 Mexican silver designs, this fruit-and leaf necklace and earrings set is impeccably made and has an almost true-to-life quality. Sometimes signed by maker but quite often not, this specific design can be found in mixed metals as well and it never fails to attract the eye with the luscious curves of its fruit and the deep veining and serrated edges of its leaves…   Size/Weight: necklace between 15″-17  1/2″ long (wearable; with the sterling extension provided) by 1  1/8″ wide; earrings are 1  5/8″ long by 7/8″ wide; 84.8 grams (for the set; 72.6 grams for necklace with extension) Hallmarks / Date: “MEXICO” and “STERLING”; pre-1948 Condition: excellent vintage with dramatic presence, very earthy and feminine at the same time, with no damage or repairs noted and a wonderfully warm patina  ...
