A Villasana Mexican silver Clamper Bracelet ~ dynamic Taxco repousse

substantial Alfredo Villasana Mexican silver and alexandrite Bracelet

Alfredo Villasana is one of my favorite “less celebrated” early Taxco maestros. Though all of his work is beautiful, he did have some exceptional moments and the bracelet presented here is, I believe, a great example. Heavy shield-shaped sterling links with oxidation and beading connect to floral rondelles, each one holding a big simulated alexandrite (color-change corundum, in fact) in substantial crown settings. Despite its heft, this is a comfortable bracelet to wear and one of those pieces that become cherished heirlooms…   Size/Weight: 7  1/2″ long yet due to the thick links would wear more like a 7″ – 7  1/8″ piece; 1″ wide with the thickness of the links being 1/8″; 137.1 grams Hallmarks / Date: maker’s initials “AV” as well as “TAXCO STERLING 925”; 1940s Condition: excellent...

slick Villasana Mexican silver Clamper Bracelet ~ modernist swirl and ball design

One of my favorite Alfredo Villasana designs, the “swirl and ball” clamper is executed in repousse that exudes a sense of uninterrupted, effortless flow. As opposed to some of the maestro’s other creations, this one adheres to the strict minimalism of modernism with oxidation and patina being the only enhancements that add to its sculpturality…   Size/Weight: inner circumference of 6  1/2″ (yet adjustable due to its hinged construction); width tapering from an impressive 3  3/4″ at the front to 1  1/4″ next to the hinge; 60.0 grams Hallmarks / Date: maker’s conjoined initials “AV” as shown as well as “VILLASANA”, “MADE IN MEXICO”, “STERLING 925” and Eagle 8 assay mark; 1950s-60s Condition: excellent vintage with sweeping, curvaceous lines, beautifully executed repoussage, a tight,...
