rare Bernice Goodspeed Mexican Deco silver Perfume Bottle

One of the few female contributors to Mexico’s 20th c. Silver Renaissance that we know about, Bernice Goodspeed was also a writer, married to painter Carl Pappe. According to Bille Hougart (Little Book of Mexican Silver, p. 68), the couple ran their own shop in Taxco selling jewelry designed by Goodspeed and other maestros as well as her books and Pappe’s artwork. Not as prolific as some of her contemporaries, Bernice’s jewelry are well-made and at times quite interesting. Matching the necklace that is also available on this site, a gorgeous 1950s sterling silver Mexican bracelet bearing Eagle 22 assay mark which was used by Davis, Goodspeed, Paz and Pineda among others. It exhibits carefully done overlay accentuated by deep oxidation and a visually pleasing combination of scrolls and arrows.
