Mexican Deco silver and amethyst repousse starburst Necklace

By in archived |

Beautifully made Mexican Deco sterling silver repousse necklace, its pendant shaped as a starburst with three big, teardrop amethysts, this is not a design that comes up very often. I would not be exaggerating if I said that the attention to detail and the level of craftsmanship evident here bespeak the anonymous maestro’s command over their art. Just note the graduated levels that form the starburst and the way the little silver sphere at the center of the chain links softens the austere geometry of the lozenge. The stones are open-backed to make the most of the light and the whole ensemble a pleasure to wear and to behold…   Size/Weight: 17″ long (wearable); starburst pendant is 2 3/4″ wide and adds a drop of 2 1/4″ to the chain; 41.2 grams Hallmarks / Date: not signed for maker (which baffles me!) but marked “STERLING MADE IN MEXICO”...

scrumptious Deco Mexican silver Necklace Earrings set ~ Taxco fruit and leaf design

By in archived |

In one of my favorite pre-1948 Mexican silver designs, this fruit-and leaf necklace and earrings set is impeccably made and has an almost true-to-life quality. Sometimes signed by maker but quite often not, this specific design can be found in mixed metals as well and it never fails to attract the eye with the luscious curves of its fruit and the deep veining and serrated edges of its leaves…   Size/Weight: necklace between 15″-17  1/2″ long (wearable; with the sterling extension provided) by 1  1/8″ wide; earrings are 1  5/8″ long by 7/8″ wide; 84.8 grams (for the set; 72.6 grams for necklace with extension) Hallmarks / Date: “MEXICO” and “STERLING”; pre-1948 Condition: excellent vintage with dramatic presence, very earthy and feminine at the same time, with no damage or repairs noted and a wonderfully warm patina  ...

extra wide Victorian sterling silver Buckle Bracelet ~ double prong design

By in archived |

A stunner of a bracelet, this piece is one of the best in the “buckle” genre I have seen not so much for its ornamentation but because of its magnificent proportions and the heftiness of its applique elements. Generously wide, it has a “frame-and-double-prong” shape with channel-set beading, oxidation and twist-rope accents. Enhanced by the wonderful patina it has acquired, the bracelet’s layered construction makes a strong visual impression. I am not exactly sure if it’s a late Victorian / Edwardian piece or an early Deco example… Learn more Size/Weight: inner circumference 6 7/8″ (clasped); width between just shy of 2″ and 1  1/2″; 75.7 grams.
