Mexican Deco silver repousse Aztec Rose Cuff Bracelet

By in archived |

Classic, early Mexican Deco silver repousse cuff, this is an anonymous yet very well crafted piece. There is an unspoken consensus that this type of bracelets is closely associated with the Mexico City workshops / retailers, the most famous among them being Maciel and Sanborn’s. Yet there was a considerable number of maestros making them and the variety in their size and decorative motifs is so rich, one usually happens upon an unexpected example when one least… expects it! With the cuff at hand, however, we stay within the confines of the so-called “iconic motif”, the “Aztec Rose”, well-loved and ever-present in Mexican jewelry of the 1920s-40s that betrayed a strong “folk” influence…   Size/Weight: 6 7/8″ inner circumference (including the 1 1/16″ gap; relatively adjustable yet I would advise to have a jeweler...

rare Mexican Deco silver repousse Cuff Bracelet ~ Aztec desert Goddess ritual

By in archived |

A very rare and early Mexican repousse cuff this is an unsigned piece yet its incredible workmanship and design originality elevates it to museum quality. My hypothesis is that it represents an ancient ritual, possibly associated with Malinalxochitl, the Aztec sorceress and goddess of snakes, scorpions and insects of the desert. Crisp, rich and boldly assertive its repoussage is of the highest quality and proves yet again the undeniable craftsmanship of the anonymous early maestro…     Size/Weight: inner circumference of 6 3/4″ (relatively adjustable); width between 1  15/16″ at center front and 1  1/4″ at its narrowest; 34.8 grams Hallmarks / Date: unsigned and not hallmarked for silver content yet tests as silver and is guaranteed of at least .900 purity; 1920s-30s Condition: excellent vintage – a unique repousse cuff worthy of the best...

Deco Sanborn’s Mexican silver Cuff Bracelet Maciel style repousse

By in archived |

Lovers of vintage Mexican silver jewelry recognize Maciel and Sanborn’s for their repousse cuff bracelets. In this Sanborn’s example the three rose decoration stands out against a stippled and oxidized bacground. I love the bracelet’s undulating perimeter and the great patina it has developed over time. A beautiful Mexico City repousse cuff…   Size/Weight: 6  3/4″ inner circumference (including the 1″ gap); width between 1  5/8″ at center front and 1/2″ at either end; 28.9 grams Hallmarks / Date: retailer’s name in early, raised letters; not hallmarked for silver content yet tested and guaranteed to be of at least .900 purity; 1930s-40s Condition: excellent vintage with a less frequently seen three rose motif, great patina and no flaws noted     SOLD – Thank you! Deco Mexican silver Maciel style repousse Cuff Bracelet by Real Factory

By in archived |

In the style popularized by Maciel, a generously wide repousse silver cuff bracelet bearing the signature “Real SILVER Factory”. I have never had a Real (as in royal, I am assuming, and not …real) piece before nor do we seem to know much about them even though they are listed and I have encountered at least one other inquiry for help on the specific maker. Anonymity, however, does not seem to have affected the quality of their work. Wide, made out of silver sheet with good thickness so less flexible than most the bracelet at hand features a gorgeous floral design that continues all around. And what about the repoussage itself? Proud, confident and intense – all attributes you want to see in an excellent example of the genre…   Size/Weight: inner circumference of 7 3/8″ (including the 1 5/16″ gap); 1 3/4″ wide; 62.1 grams...
