early Matilde Poulat Mexican silver “paloma” Bracelet ~ rare Matl cuff

By in archived |

Stunning Matilde Poulat bracelet in her signature “Paloma” design yet in a rare for Matl cuff form. It is getting rather difficult to find such early examples of Matilde’s work as both collectors and discerning well-dressers are on the look out for her jewelry. Here, as with all Matilde pieces, the craftsmanship is of the highest quality. The repoussage is strong and pronounced, executed with the unique boldness and attention to detail that can only be found in Poulat’s early works. Please note the way the cuff has been constructed – the bird is not simply applied onto the cuff; the two parts are “melded” together, as the cuff in effect provides the repousse bird with its back and has been hand-cut to absolutely follow the “paloma’s” contour. A veritable collector’s pride and an extremely rare early Matilde Poulat...

Matl style MEXICAN silver repousse BRACELET Deco MASK with coral cabochons

By in archived |

In the tradition established by Matilde Poulat, an early Deco repousse silver bracelet in the so-called Mexico City style, this is a piece for the daring female. Classically “archeological” in inspiration, this mask-dominated bracelet has the hand-crafted characteristics that are so unique to the genre: textured repoussage, an almost naive approach to finishing, a motif that comes out of Mexico’s pre-Colombian past and a primordial appeal that becomes more potent the longer one looks at it. Unique indeed…   Size/Weight: 7″ long (wearable); width between 1  5/16″ at center front and 7/16″ near the clasp; 40.2 grams Hallmarks / Date: “STERLING” in early raised letters; 1930s-early 1940s Condition: excellent vintage with imposing presence, great patina and no flaws noted     SOLD – Thank you!
