early Carmen Beckmann Mexican silver and amethyst Necklace

By in archived |

Impressive and quite generous in weight while at the same time not easy to find, the Carmen Beckmann necklace presented here is wrought in sterling and has flat-cut oval amethyst stones adorning its stylized foliate links. Based on design and construction, I tend to believe that this is an early example of Beckmann’s work and it is exquisite…   Size/Weight: 16 1/2″ long (wearable; once clasped, it becomes a little roomier at 16 3/4″); 1″ wide (at its widest); 71.4 grams Hallmarks / Date: maker’s signature as shown as well as “MEXICO STERLING”; 1960s Condition: excellent vintage with a very good patina – you could always buff it up a little as I have hardly touched it -, having lusciously colored stones with nice inclusions and no damage noted   SOLD – Thank you! splendid Lico Mexican silver Clamper Bracelet ~ rare Deco Taxco repousse piece

By in archived |

A maestro whose work does not come up often yet whose jewelry can be exceptional in design and craftsmanship, Lico is listed but details of his life still elude us. I have had a few of his jewelry over the years and I can say that his repoussage is stunning and his creations boast eye-catching proportions. The clamper at hand is a known design for him – big, bold and beautiful with deeply incised repoussage, a strong sense of movement in the swirls and turns at center front and patina that accentuates the richness of well-aged silver. Truly splendid…   Size/Weight: 6  7/8″ inner circumference (adjustable due to its hinged construction to accommodate bigger sizes as well); width between 3  1/8″ and 1  5/8″; 78.0 grams Hallmarks / Date: maker’s signature as shown as well as “STERLING TAXCO”; pre-1948 Condition: excellent vintage...

stunning A. Porkayo Mexican silver armadillo Necklace Earrings set ~ Hector Aguilar design

By in archived |

Signed by A. Porkayo a nicely made Mexican silver necklace and earrings set in Hector Aguilar’s “armadillo” design. A listed maestro, Porkayo has really outdone himself with this demi. Great patina that seems to be original and oxidation (you can always buff it a little bit but I did not want to touch it!) bring out the set’s curvaceous beauty. This is a substantial duo with the necklace generously heavy and at a comfortable for most 17″ long, it boasts a careful riveted construction with graduated links. The matching earrings are an added bonus since they are not so easy to find. early Hector Aguilar Mexican silver “pillow” Bracelet ~ a Taxco classic

Pictured in Penny Morril’s “Silver Masters of Mexico” on p. 136, this early Hector Aguilar bracelet is one of his “pillow” link designs, wrought here in sterling silver.
