A design that has been copied by several Taxco maestros, this Antonio Pineda thick silver band ring is one of those pieces that demonstrates in black and white the difference between an original and its many emulations. I have sold examples of this ring in the past but never an Antonio band and when I found this, I could not get over the thickness of the silver used, the depth of the recesses between the applied pre-Colombian motifs and their dramatic oxidation. Hallmarks / Date: Antonio’s crown as shown as well as “970” and an Eagle whose number has been stamped out by one of the open circles in the design (must have been 1, 3 or 124 since there is no design number on the ring); 1950s-70s
