When it comes to vintage Deco Mexican jewelry one cannot go more classic than Spratling’s “hands and tulips”. The necklace I am presenting here, though not signed for maker, is one of the nicest renditions I have seen. Beautifully detailed and masterfully repoussaged hands, deeply carved tulips that end in a curvaceous amethyst “moon” and wide flattened links in the chain combine in an early Taxco treasure…


Size/Weight: 17  3/4″ long (adjustable); hands and stones part 7″ long by 1″ wide (diameter of large amethyst); 56.2 grams

Hallmarks / Date: “STERLING”; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with interesting inclusions in the amethyst but no chips, cracks or breaks and wonderfully warm patina
