1940s silver and carved coral cameo Pendant Necklace

Sweet vintage 1930s/40s carved coral cameo pendant accompanied by a fine, .950 silver chain, this is a romantic, elegant necklace that defies the whims of time and fashion. Featuring the portrait of a "matron" in the classical style the cameo is set in a sterling oval frame embellished with delicate floral overlay. The pendant's swivel-out bail makes me think that it might have started its life as a pin or at least a combination pin / pendant; if so, the conversion was done a long time ago. What attracts me to the duo is the silky, warm patina of the silver-work and the tiny beading accenting the bezel around the coral. The cameo itself, at least to my eyes, points back to female representations of Roman times with nice detail in the carving...

Size / Weight: pendant is 1 3/8" long (including the bail) by 7/8" wide; chain is 16" long; 7.3 grams (for the set)

Hallmarks / Date: "STERLING" on pendant; "950" on the chain; please note that the spring ring is probably a replacement and just silver-plated, not solid; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with great patina, a beautiful carved little cameo, great color in the coral, with no damage and no repairs noted
