Decorated in the Aesthetic style which was heavily influenced by Japanese art, this antique sterling silver pendant locket still remains un-engraved and can be easily personalized with its new caretaker’s initials. On the front panel a swallow is focused on a butterfly that seems absorbed in the delicate foliage surrounding it. True to the Japanese love for a-symmetry, the image does note take up the whole surface but leaves a small part toward the bail to be covered with cross-hatching and etched droplet details. Beading and an architectural border lend depth and drama to compensate for the delicate presence of the iconography…

Size / Weight: 1 3/4” N-S (without the bail) by 1 3/8” E-W; with the bail it will add a 2 1/4” drop to the chain; 14.9 grams

Hallmarks / Date: not signed for maker nor hallmarked for metal quality yet tested and guaranteed to silver of sterling purity; 1880s-90s

Condition: very good vintage condition with one of the sweetest scenes decorating it, nice patina, un-engraved on the back so you can, if you wish, personalize it, with no unsightly damage or repairs noted except for a tiny, pinprick impression on the back panel that doesn’t affect presentation at all
