Matilde Poulat Mexican silver obsidian Quetzalcoatl Bracelet

Wrought in fine, .950 silver in Matl’s signature repousse style, this Mexican Deco bracelet by the big maestra features Quetzalcoatl holding in its mouth a perfect obsidian cabochon. The image of the divine Serpent is mirrored here, its feathered body wrapping around the wrist on either end of the obsidian, a talisman that secures the well-being of its bearer. Matilde Poulat’s hand is quite evident here in the meticulous, detailed chasing of the silver, the scuptural repoussage, the deep recesses in the design that make the elevated areas even more dramatic.
