Rivera Mexican silver jeweled doves Necklace

Maestro Rivera is one of those contemporaries of Matilde Poulat’s who created jewelry in her manner and whose work I am always on the look-out for because of its quality and attention to detail. Based on a Matl original, the “palomas” (or “doves”) necklace at hand combines Mexico City style repousse with beading, wirework and oxidation. The two birds are shown here with wings extended, flanking a beautiful amethyst, surrounded by turquoise cabs above the central medallion’s articulated swag with teardrop dangles…

Size / Weight: 18 1/2'“ long (wearable); central station is 4 1/2” wide and adds a 4” drop to the necklace (including the dangles); width at the chain is 3/4”; 89.9 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker’s signature as shown as well as “HECHO EN MEXICO”, “925” and Eagle 1 assay mark; 1950s-60s

Condition: excellent vintage with nice patina, beautiful turquoise hues that range from light green to blue, richly colored amethyst cabs, with very good craftsmanship and no damage or repairs noted except for the little turquoise denoting the eye in the bird on the right (as you face the necklace) seems to have lost some of its volume (it looks flat rather than round); the stone is still secure in its bezel though and not in any fear of falling out so I decided not to have it replaces as a tribute to the pieces long life
