2.5" wide Mexican Deco silver and stone Sun Disk Bracelet

$0.00
SOLD

An early Mexican Deco bracelet, made in Mexico City as indicated by its hallmarks, this massive piece is as well-crafted as it is impressive. Impressive might even be an understatement, actually. Though it is true that vintage Mexican silver jewelry is not of the delicate, demure kind, even after so many years of researching, buying and selling them, I find myself at a loss for words when a piece like this shows up. I love the Spanish Colonial air of the wirework adorning the convex panels with its oxidation and careful finishing and I think it offers a fantastic contrast to the green of the stone. The carved florals, also convex to perfectly sit on the sterling panels, are held in place with big, sturdy prongs and each one of them is overlaid with a miniature version of the ancient Mexica Sun Disk unearthed in Mexico City's zocalo in 1790. If you were looking for a jaw-dropping bracelet, you need not look any further...

Size / Weight: 7 1/2" inner circumference (clasped) by 2 1/2" wide; 180.4 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's initials as shown as well as "HECHO EN MEXICO 925" and "D.F"; pre-1948

Condition: excellent vintage with gorgeous, richly colored carved stones, meticulously finished wirework, crisply detailed appliques and great patina; did I mention jaw-dropping size? - and no damage or repairs noted except for a couple of tiny tiny, imperceptible little nicks in the stone panels which might even be original to them since they seem to be glazed over
