A Tobias Mexican Deco silver repousse Cuff Bracelet ~ Aztec Roses

$0.00
SOLD

One of my favorite "less celebrated" maestros whose jewelry, however, has been experiencing a constant rise in appreciation among collectors, A. Tobias was a contemporary of Matilde Poulat's and I believe he was probably also working in Mexico City. His creations caught my attention several years ago for their characteristic "Mexico City style" repoussage and their beautiful craftsmanship. I have since come to find out that he also designed some amazing "mask" brooches and tried his hand at impressive cuff bracelets in the Maciel style like the one presented here. With its classic decoration of "Aztec roses" taking center stage, the cuff is generously wide and quite dramatic in appearance thanks to the boldness of its repoussage and the patina of time which deepened the original oxidation in the recesses. For all of us who don't shy away from attention and make their statements with the jewelry they wear...

Size / Weight: inner circumference of 7 1/4" (including the 1 3/4" gap; relatively adjustable but I would recommend asking for the help of a professional jeweler to adjust, if desired, in order not to damage the piece); 3 3/16" wide; 75.0 grams

Hallmarks / Date: maker's signature "TOBIAS A" as well as "MEXICO" and "SILVER"; 1930s-40s

Condition: excellent vintage with stunning presence, masterful repoussage and the patina you want to see on a well-loved, well-cared-for piece of jewelry, with no damage and no repairs noted
