American modernist silver, lucite and faux baroque pearls Necklace

$315.00

Slick, strong design that brings to mind the best of Scandinavian modernism, this sterling silver studio-made necklace consisting of neck ring and pendant is an unsigned American beauty. One of the most elegant examples of the form I have ever seen, it is obviously hand-wrought and its use of lucite and what I will describe as faux baroque pearls (if I am wrong, all the better for you!) alongside sterling silver and just a bit of brass underscores the belief that inspired jewelry design does not necessarily have to rely on prohibitively expensive materials. I just wish its maker had signed it...

Size / Weight: 16" inner circumference; pendant is 2" square and with the two stems that connect it to the neck ring it adds a 4" drop to the latter; 53 grams (on a postal scale)

Hallmarks / Date: "STERLING" twice; no maker's signature; 1960s-70s

Condition: excellent vintage with breath-taking presence, beautiful patina, the lucite bead and faux baroque pearls in great shape as well with no damage and no repairs noted - a gorgeous example of studio made jewelry from the period
