antique Art Nouveau silver "nymph" Pin / Pendant Necklace

$0.00
SOLD

An Art Nouveau piece, this sterling silver pin / pendant features a beautifully sculpted, lithe “nymph” who seems ready to dive into the aromatic depths of a giant flower. I have had this little treasure in my possession for a long time, taking it out once in a while to admire it, all the while trying to decide if it is a period example. The quality and crispness of the casting make me believe it is indeed such and I also think that it started its life as something else - maybe a bar or dress clip? It came to me paired with an old, generously long twist-rope chain that complements the pin / pendant perfectly and allows you to enjoy it right away as a necklace…

Size / Weight: 2 5/8” long by 7/8” wide (for the pin/pendant); chain is 31 5/8” long; 14.5 grams (for the set; pin / pendant 8.9 grams; chain 5.6 grams)

Hallmarks / Date: “STERLING” on chain’s spring ring; pin / pendant not signed for maker nor hallmarked for metal quality yet tested and guaranteed to be solid silver, most probably sterling; ca 1900 for pin / pendant; chain might be of same period or a little later

Condition: excellent vintage with very good detail in the casting (just note the tension in the muscles of the nymph’s body!), fantastic patina that enhances the piece’s sculpturality, with no damage and no repairs noted
