The Arts and Crafts is one of my favorite periods in jewelry design - emphasis on motifs from nature, design that focuses on craftsmanship while allowing the viewer to follow the artisan's hand, "honest" materials without necessarily seeking out the most expensive metals and gemstones, it was a real break with the fussy excesses of Victorian aesthetics. The silver and banded agate intaglio ring presented here is an example that brings together all the above. Impeccably carved into the stone taking advantage of its two colors, the delicate floral motif brings to mind early spring meadows drenched in sunlight. Clearly hand-wrought the silver setting mirrors the floral elements in the stone with their meticulous hand-hammered texture describing the silversmith's creative journey over the precious metal...
